Belmont Stakes

Belmont Stakes

The Belmont Stakes is held five weeks after The Kentucky Derby at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The Belmont is known as "The Test of a Champion" because of its length, 1½ miles, and the fact that it is the third and final leg of the Triple Crown. The long track at Belmont Park is a true test of stamina and determination. Also known as the run for the carnations, The Belmont Stakes is the oldest of the Triple Crown events. As he does in the Kentucky Derby, Secretariat holds the Belmont Stakes record for the fastest time set at 2 minutes and 24 seconds. The race record was set by Secretariat in 1973, the same year he won the Kentucky Derby.
